Open Mic

Juanita Mic

Juanita Mic was and is a project formed to accomplish multiple jobs. We realized that when you have such a diverse and talented crew of friend musicians, that you can offer our services on so many other levels aside from us playing as a band at a show.

Juanita Mic loves playing concerts, but we really love our Open Mics & Rock Star Karaoke services as well. It’s so rewarding allowing people to play with musicians that may be of a higher musicianship, as it allows for EVERYONE to feel like a rock star! Nothing beats the feeling when the band’s really meshing with the new guy and the new guy’s playing things that he never thought possible. “Music is a wonderful thing.”

Open Mic

Our favorite project is our Open Mic project. We’re the backing house band for the legendary Theodores Blues, Brews & BBQ restaurant’s Open Mic. The Open Mic promotes open styles and we enjoy participating within some of those wild styles.

With an Open Mic style situation, a sheet is drafted up. We take the hours and break them into time slots. That allows for fans/musicians to know what time that they’ll be needed exactly. It removes the guessing game of who’s next. You can sign up for 11.00pm and play within minutes of that time. This allows for every partipant to still enjoy the party the entire time AND enables you to pace your night accordingly.

How It Works:

Each participant is able to sign up for his/her desired slot and then choose which of the house band musicians that they want backing their set. (ex1: Joe signs up for 11pm-11.20pm. Joe plays acoustic guitar. Joe would like the entire house band backing him on his entire set so he Xs off the squares of all of the instruments. ex2: Frank signs up during the 11.40pm-midnight slot. Frank plays drums and has his friend Kenny with him. Frank would like to have Kenny play the bass with him during his set and he also wants the other house band members to play with him. Frank would sign up on the sign up sheet either as Frank or as their project name. Frank would check off the keys & guitar, BUT he would leave drums blank and he’d put KENNY’s name in the bass box. When we have that information it makes it easier to call everyone from the audience to get them up on the stage as quickly as possible so we keep the excitement in the air.

Another added bonus of an Open Mic style event is that you can play any of our instruments as a participant. We provide the entire music equipment setup (we encourage people to bring their own guitars & bass, but it is not required) and anyone can sign up and then play away.

Please check out our sign up grid for a better understanding of how our signing up system works. We can modify the sheets to your request.
